What is Slack, why are we using it and is it right for you?

In the Web-feet office, we use Slack constantly when we cannot be bothered to open our mouths and have a proper conversation with the person next to us.
It’s simple, easy to maintain and does what we need. We don’t use it to its full potential but I guess that’s due to the history and the fact we never needed to?
So the question. What is Slack, why are we using it and is it right for you?
We deal with sensitive data, client files and much more, why would we send that across a non-encrypted service which any decent hacker could access?
“Team communication
for the 21st century.”
Not a very slogan if you cannot protect users from 21st-century problems… (Sorry)
No, but really, I love Slack, the mega-popular agency friendly chat client. I love it so much that I removed it from my phone, I can’t help but reply constantly and at all hours of the night when I am asleep. It’s a fungal disease that I love/hate with all my big heart!
Anywho, Slack is still so new that it’s possible you haven’t heard of, let alone used, the service, which I describe to newcomers as something between text messaging, funky chatrooms, and Bebo, lol. It’s no less addicting than a combination of the three.
