10 Creative Ways to Promote Your App
Posted on June 8, 2016 by Jay Jones
Creating an app opens a whole new channel by which you can interact with your audience.
A haven in which your audience always has access to you in one simple click. Your app is a space wholly customizable to their needs. The problem in most instances is not the app itself, instead, it is the crucial step so often missed after the app is created, promotion.
In web-Feet’s experience, it does not make sense to pay to advertise to get customers because the cost of a customer acquisition is never lower than the price of the app.
What’s more, there are many ways out there to promote your app for free. Here are 10 options:
- Build a site. This one or two-pager showcases your app to the web audience. Take cues from Snapchat or Proximate.
- Create a promo video. Make it creative, funny, thought-provoking. Tell a story but in a way people can connect with.
- Get press, tonnes of it. Entrepreneur Neil Patel says: “Press is the best way to kick start your startup, and the best way to get it is to manually reach out to journalists.”
- Pitch to app review sites. Sites like 148apps, AppStoreApps and AppAdvice can generate a lot of buzz for your app if they mention it.
- Get some awards. Look into awards such as the Kiip Build Fund orThe Mobile. If you win, you also get a tonne of press, not to mention winner’s booty.
- Get speaking opportunities. Research events that touch on the topic your app addresses and make an appearance. Start small and get recognised as an authority in the space.
- Manually recruit customers. The creator behind Canvsly reaches out to local art schools, libraries and paediatricians to get more customers. Know your audience and find them.
- Create a how-to series. Make the most of Vine or short videos to show potential customers useful info.
- Share your content. Use your Twitter, Facebook, Google+ and LinkedIn profiles to promote the app several times in a week.
- Feature the app in emails. Your new app needs to be engraved into every aspect of your marketing, that includes all of your emails. As a business, you will send out countless emails and not include your app in each of those is a missed opportunity.
Your app has had a lot of time and though sewed into it, the last thing you want to do as a business owner and as a creator is throw it all away by not promoting your app. Imagine a new restaurant opening down the street in your neighbourhood. The restaurant opens up its doors bright and early without telling a soul. All it has done to promote itself is place a sign outside its door saying “Come on in!”. On the inside, the restaurant has friendly staff, top of the line cooking equipment, and the most mouthwatering croissants you have ever tasted.
